16. Ideas for a sweet 16 party?

A murder mystery using the characters from Alice in Wonderland. The victim would be Alice, and any one of the guests could be the killer. Write detailed background descriptions for each character, each of which give every character a motive for killing Alice. Make a "Tell" and "Do not Tell" clue for each character. The "Tell" clue is a rumor about another character designed to give the other players reason to believe that character committed the crime. The "Do not Tell" clue is designed to cast suspicion on that particular player. Invitations ask each guest to dress as their favorite character from the story (this would not necessarily be the character they would take on at the party). Guests should not know that they are participating in a solving a murder mystery; they simply think they are coming to an Alice in Wonderland themed tea party. After some mingling, bring out the cards and announce that "Alice is dead," thus revealing that this is no ordinary dress-up party. Tell guests that anyone in the room could be the murderer, and give an envelope with the name of their character and his or her background information. Guests should ask each other questions to get an idea of who most likely committed the crime. There are two rules: Guests cannot lie, and they cannot refuse to answer a question. Hand out alibis of each character to the guests. These contain not only their whereabouts during the murder, but their guilt or innocence. It should be made clear that only the murderer was to lie about his or her innocence. The details of Alice's murder are revealed, causing further suspicion and heated debate. When everyone is given a chance to figure out who they think is guilty of this terrible crime, a vote should be taken. Once that is through, the real murderer is revealed.

Why Is Sugar so Bad for Daily Consumption, Verses Artificial Sweeteners?
Why Is Sugar so Bad for Daily Consumption, Verses Artificial Sweeteners?
Sugar adds calories which if you eat more than you need, you will gain weight. Weight gain increases your risk of getting heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure or even some types of cancer. However, if you are underweight, sugar can add extra calories so that you can gain weight. If your body does not make enough insulin like a diabetic, then the sugar you eat increases the sugar in your blood to unhealthy levels1. Can you take sugar/artificial sweeteners overseas?Yes I think it will be fine. You can also go to TSA's website to see what their limits are on this product. They change stuff all the time so check their website for updates often.2. Are Sweeteners or Sugar better in hot drinks? No honey has more calories than sugar first of all!!! Anyway sweeteners like the other kind like slenda and so on, are less in calories however, I would not say they are better for you. Your best bet is Sugar in the raw. This is real sugar cane, its natural and its not granulated (processed) so its not as much calories. Try it out!3. Do you use artificial sweeteners or drink diet soda?they say that when you drink alcoholic beverages with artificial sweeteners (ie diet coke) you will get more krunked up than with regular sweeteners.. true story4. Natural/organic Sweeteners.. sugar substitutes?i comprehend all of the literature say they are risk-free. yet i am getting damaging issues if i take advantage of Aspartame (wo not knowingly use yet have have been given it by risk), i do no longer look to have a issue with the others, yet I do decrease how lots i take advantage of5. In need of a recipe for an simple and easy cake, no sugar or sweeteners added.?melt some dark chocolate, mix in nuts, raisins and biscuit crumbs and refrigerate until solid. you are not avoiding sugar entirely but you are not adding sweeteners and i think you will find the ingredients are all made with sugar rather than anything else. alternatively buy fruits such as strawberries and coat them with melted chocolate to refrigerate in the same way so you have something ready when you need a sweet fix.6. I am sorry to say7. Any Person Who Uses Artificial Sweeteners, Plz Come? One of the most deadly sweeteners are sorbital, usually found in sugargless candies. Anyways, it is most common in chewinggum. A lady ate 5 sticks of sugarless gum for 2 weeks and she is suffering from dihhrea and weight loss. This is one of the effects of artificial sweetners. THATS WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER BUY SUGARLESS CANDY!8. Can artificial sweeteners cause allergy problems?you betcha. Some people are not actually allergic to them (in that their body does not produce IgE in response to exposure) as much as they are sensitive to them. If you are watching the calories, then stick with evaporated cane juice and just watch the intake. Evaporated cane juice has the same number of calories (16 per tsp) but it is not treated with all the chemicals used to make white sugar...much less the toxic chemicals used to make artificial sweeteners.9. Do sugar substitutes/artificial sweeteners make you ill?yes ! they make you ill !10. What sweeteners can I use for baking?Make a regular cake with sugar. Those of us with diabetes count carbs, not sugars. We can eat sugar and just dose for it with insulin or use the diabetic exchange system. Especially watch out for sweeteners ending with the letters "ol" .They give you diarrhea . Try and angel food cake. When it is cool, stick holes in the top and pour sugar free jello in the holes. Use a couple different flavors/colors.Keep it in the fridge. It will look great when you slice it. you can also use sugar free pudding instead.11. What artificial Sweeteners are safe, and which ones cause cancer ?All sweetners are safe unless taken in HUGE amounts, like, say, truckfuls
Good Uses for Sweet Whey

6 Unique Tips for Guaranteed Sweet Dreams
On your third cup of coffee and it's not even noon There are far too many of us worrying ourselves awake about getting a good night's rest, and the truth is it's affecting our physical and mental well-being. If you're tired of tossing and turning every night, the good news is there are more than a few ways to guarantee sweeter dreams. Whether that means finding the perfect mattress or designing a zen-er zone, here are a few simple tips for getting a happier sleep, in partnership with IKEA.A bedroom shouldn't just be the place you rest your head, it should be a sanctuary. If you're looking for some calm-inducing (and aesthetically pleasing) tricks to secure your zees, try implementing elements of feng shui design into your layout. For instance, avoid sleeping beneath a window, which is believed to be bad for your personal energy. A bed that's approachable from both sides, with nightstands on each, is also considered to be helpful. Stick to a warm neutral decor palette and make sure you have multiple light-level options to put your room on the good-vibes track. From laptops to kitchen appliances to regular ol' alarm clocks, time is literally staring us down every minute of the day. And if you're stuck with a nasty bout of insomnia, there's nothing more stressful than seeing the hours tick by. You can fix this by putting time out of sight, out of mind. Keep your phone outside of the bedroom, for instance, and you're less likely to keep yourself awake by checking the clock...or frantically refreshing your social feeds. If you're not getting a good sleep, there's a chance your mattress is the problem. Old and lumpy Not soft enough There are potentially dozens of reasons for your discomfort. Invest in a good rest by putting some (horizontal) time into picking out a new one. Head into the store and actually test out the wide array of body-contouring memory foam options, pressure-relieving latex mattresses, or airy spring and coil mattresses. You'll never know which is best if you don't give them all a lay-down dry run. From sleep disorders to general anxiety, many people have turned to weighted blankets and deep pressure therapy for rest and relaxation. Using the same principles as swaddling a baby, lying beneath a custom-weighted blanket—which should roughly be 10 per cent of your weight—has proven to be incredibly calming, often increasing production of serotonin and melatonin. The right pillow situation is equally key. Whether you're a side-sleeper, back-sleeper, or all-over-the-bed sleeper, don't worry, there's a pillow for that!Believe it or not, there's an entire YouTube community ready to lull you to sleep—on purpose! ASMR (which stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) is most easily defined as the pleasurable, tingly feeling you experience after hearing certain audio triggers, like gentle whispering, the strike of a match, or the rustle of leaves. If you're having trouble sleeping, cue up a playlist of ASMRtists, plug in your headphones, sit back, and soak in a world of soothing soundscapes. If you're feeling extra stressed in the evening, take a deep breath: Certain scents can help you unwind. Aromatherapy has long been used to trigger sleep, with essential oils of lemon, sage and jasmine, among others, believed to be especially calming. Lavender may be the most praised of the bunch, with studies suggesting the floral scent is especially effective with curing insomnia, and has the ability to affect our neuro-receptors, the same as anti-anxiety medication. Why not make every night a dreamy night (quite literally) with custom linens, lighting and bedroom decor from IKEA. Bountiful zees await!
Sweet and Sour Sauce Made with Apples?
sweet and sour sauce made with apples?Cranberry sauce is rather cranberries , sugar and water. Boiled then left to set. Any fruit could be used as against cranberries yet some require extra boiling to attain only approximately a jelly degree. Strawberries and raspberries will additionally require slightly extra sugar. If Splenda, Equal,Sugar Twin and Other 'fake' Sweeteners Turn into Toxic Substances in Our Bodies?
Type 2 diabetes is controlled by diet. You can actually reverse it if you lose wieght. I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes and lost 21 lbs. I am no longer in danger. I cut out pasta, potatoes, juice, bread and rice. All high in natural sugar. The weight fell off. I use Truvia. It is made from sugar and has no harmful chemicals. I look and feel great. I eat constantly and the weight has stayed off. Lots of salads, fruit and lo fat cheese.. Be careful with fruit, the sweeter it is the more natural sugar it has. Watermelon is the worst. Go to your local library and check out some books on proper diet for type 2 diabetes. good luck1. How come people don't use artificial sweeteners in desserts? It is because people are smart to realize that these unnatural products can interfere with baking textures and flavors. There is a reason why they are called "artificial"2. ARE SWEETENERS so so dangerous FOR HEALTH?Aspartame (the artificial sweetener used in over 9000 products) has over 92 known side effects that impact your health. It was listed as a bio weapon by the government to be used against our nations enemies before it was approved to be put in our food and drink.3. What Is Your Opinion On Artificial Sweeteners?i think they suck and i cant stand the taste of then nothing beats the real thing4. What are the benefits and pitfalls of artificial sweeteners as opposed to regular sugar?Try organic, pure cane sugar5. Is the new artificial sweeteners like Truvia made from a Stevia plant bad for you like Aspertane? They make the Stevia already made into the can buy that if you want. However, it does not taste very is a bit bitter. I use PureVia, it is made from Stevia but has 1 gram of Erythritol per serving which is a natural sugar alcohol6. Should young kids avoid artificial sweeteners?in moderation its totally fine7. If aspartame and artificial sweeteners were that dangerous, EVERYONE would get sick, right?Wrong. The dose makes the poison and some people are more susceptible than others. Even water can be fatal if drunk in large enough quantity8. What is the sweetness ratio for artificial sweeteners like Sweet n low or Aspartame to sugar ? I'm trying to explain to my husband.?each different artificial sweetener has that info on the package..some say measure same as sugar or 1 packet equals one teaspoon full, etc9. question on the artificial sweeteners?Splenda has the least10. Do artificial sweeteners, like the ones in diet sodas, cause headaches?Yes... for some people. I am just plain allergic to them, so there are *other* complications that I get, in addition to a headache from nausia. But, if you do not have any side effects, your body can probably tollerate them just fine. Many people have food that they just can not tollerate, so why would artificial sweeteners be any different than milk, wheat, soy, peanuts, shellfish...?11. What is your opinion on artificial sweeteners?NutraSweet or Aspartame is not safe. Aspartame: 50% Phenylalanine - An Amino Acid which is too high amounts can act as a neurotoxin, not to mention the risk present to those with phenylketonuria. 40% Aspartic Acid - Another Amino Acid that in high levels can be an excitotoxin and may react similarly as glutamic acid that is in MSG. 10% Methanol - Causes blindness and other complication even in low amounts When Aspartame breaks down it creates: Formaldehyde - Chemical that fixes tissue, Carcinogen Formic Acid - Known irritant, Can be toxic to kidneys, can cause cardiac problems including ischemia, etc etc. DKP (Diketopiperazine) - Carcinogen for Brain Tumors Not to sound like a fool, but the only other one I know about is sucralose, aka Splenda. As far as I know this one is supposedly safer. However, I think that it may be one of these things that could come back and bite us in the a$$ later once more time has elapsed for side effects to occur. My brother stopped using Splenda because he said it made his migraines worse. I do not think your side effects were in your head, from the sites that I have just perused looking for the components that I could not quite remember, I saw your symptoms. An look at what I wrote: neurotoxin, carcinogen for brain tumor, and excitotoxin. Definitely do not ingest nutrasweet, you may be really sensitive to it or something. I do not want to be an alarmist but things like this should be used sparingly, but unfortunately it is in everything. I would just eat organic sugar!
Interiors: Home Sweet Homespun
Muted tones and vintage-inspired decorations make Christmas a rustic affair at the Norfolk cottage of florist Jo Rodwell 'By the time Christmas arrives, I feel I've already done it ten times over!' laughs Jo. 'I suppose that's one downside of being a florist. This year I'm being strict with myself and I'm stopping work a few days before Christmas Eve. I want to be able to enjoy the run-up properly.' Becoming a florist wasn't something Jo ever planned: 'I kind of fell into it. I used to sell vintage garden furniture at antique fairs and one day I brought along a few bouquets I'd made with flowers from my garden. They sold out and the response I had from everyone was amazing.' Five years on, Jo still favours a naturalistic floral style, with many of her hero flowers coming from the cutting patch in her garden. In her arrangements, she uses foraged foliage, perennials with a gentle curve in the stem and garden roses prized for scent rather than longevity alongside carefully sourced bought-in seasonal flowers.'I like my flowers to have a wild, romantic feel. I couldn't do what I do without my garden - it allows me to add that extra special something.' When it comes to her home, Jo's style is also a perfect balance of relaxed and considered, which results in a space that feels surprisingly quiet, despite her being 'a bit of a hoarder. I'm always at car-boot sales, junk shops and antique fairs looking for pieces. I like to rescue things and give them a new lease of life.' At Christmas, Jo decorates the house in her signature style, with garlands made from foraged evergreen stems and vases of hellebores, ranunculus, anemones and amaryllis. 'I use masses of candles and put cushions and throws everywhere to make it feel really cosy,' she says. Jo waits until Christmas Eve to decorate with fresh foliage and flowers to ensure the displays will last. 'That's when it really starts to feel like Christmas,' she says.'My daughter Molly is the baker of the family, so she'll be on mince pie duty. I'll be making the chestnut stuffing and there will be mulled wine on the go. I love these small rituals we have as a family; the little traditions that are personal to us. On Christmas Day, I'm up first and I'll light the wood burner before anyone else wakes. Then we'll have panettone and prosecco for breakfast while we open our presents.'For me, Christmas is a time to relax and enjoy my family. I love the abundance: the cooking and entertaining for a house full of family and friends. On New Year's Eve, I prefer to stay at home with the children rather than go out. We'll just do Christmas all over again, with, perhaps, not quite so many mince pies!' For more information about Jo's work and her floral workshops (including one-on-ones), visit

Regina Bridal Shop Sweet Pea & Noelle Gets Nod in Vogue U.K.
"Enjoy, today is your day.""Keep an open mind, you never know until you try!"These are some of the messages, in pastel prints, to the left of Morgan Mayer and Brittany Holowaty, sisters seated together on a love seat.To their right is a row of wedding gowns.Their bridal boutique, Sweet Pea & Noelle - located in a 1926 Warehouse District building -is light and airy. It's not brimming with racks of clothes. There are few colours, no bridesmaids' dresses or graduation gowns: The bride is the focus at this shop.(In a deviation from white and cream-coloured lace and chiffon, there are 'wifey' T-shirts and 'Mrs.' jean jackets.)Everything in the store was intentional, from the curated selection of dresses, to Rory Mayer's custom art prints, to the location of the dressing rooms - far away from the two modelling areas, to give brides private time to breathe."There was a niche style-wise and service-wise that was wasn't being met -we felt anyway. And showcasing Canadian designers, because I think that they're doing some great things," said Mayer.Their vision hasn't gone unnoticed: Sweet Pea & Noelle gets a nod in the June issue of British Vogue, the only boutique to be mentioned in a feature about wedding trends."You have to be invited to Vogue," said Mayer. "You can't just be like, 'Hey, Vogue, we want to be part of your family.' ... So when I got their email (from Conde Nast), I actually sent it to Brittany, I was just like, 'Is this real'""It was like, I gotta make sure this is legit. And not just some, you know, random prince from random countries asking us for money," Holowaty said laughing."And Madonna's on the cover, which is amazing," added Mayer.Vogue U.K. is noticing what Reginans have already picked up on.Brides' most common comments about their appointments at Sweet Pea & Noelle are that they felt comfortable, their family members and friends felt comfortable, and they weren't overwhelmed.Shopping for a wedding gown can definitely be overwhelming."There's so many options; you have so many opinions. So keeping our space smaller so that you are avoiding those crowds eliminates a little bit of an element of that kind of stress," said Holowaty."Too much selection" can be problematic, added Mayer, so Sweet Pea & Noelle's selection is curated. It includes designers such as Zarucci, Kathryn Bass, Anais Anette and Pure Magnolia."And then there's also the fact that our appointments are twice as long, so it eliminates that one-hour rush time that is pretty standard with trying on dresses," said Holowaty. "You can really tell when people have been shopping (elsewhere) ... they're trying to go-go-go-go-go for the first 15 minutes, and then we're like, 'You know we have two hours, we have a lot of time,' and they just breathe and they calm down."The aim is to give customers the "royal treatment."Plus, "We want to be friends with you by the end of it," said Mayer."We want to make sure that these women are leaving feeling very body-positive," added Holowaty.Mayer and Holowaty are the "champion" for their brides - encouraging women to step out of their comfort zones, giving an honest opinion about what looks good, and offering a hug when needed.Mayer said she wants shopping at Sweet Pea & Noelle to be as much about the experience, as it is about finding a dress. That's why they decided to only carry bridal gowns: Bridesmaids dresses can be distracting, as "everyone starts shopping for themselves and the focus is pulled away from the bride," said Mayer. However, they are planning to open a separate store at some point, with a focus on wedding-party women.Mayer dreamed up Sweet Pea & Noelle four years ago, after coming home from a vacation in Bali, where she was inspired by the artisanship in everything.Already interested in the bridal industry, she Googled "Canadian wedding dress designers" and "ended up stumbling upon some amazing women that were creating their own look, their own vibe, and doing everything ethically in Canada, which made me very happy."These designers were making unique bridal gowns -the likes of which Mayer's friends had to leave Regina to get."So it just kind of all fit. I started making phone calls," said Mayer. "(The designers) didn't have any representation in the Prairie provinces."This was in June 2015; Sweet Pea & Noelle was incorporated in three months later. The store opened in October 2016.In the meantime, as Holowaty puts it, Mayer "called in the sister card.""She's also the only person I really trust to do things," said Mayer. "Brittany understands me. I can say nothing and she's like, 'I get it.'"As the business goes, they say Mayer is the dreamer and Holowaty is the "muscle" to get it done.Third-generation sibling entrepreneurs - their grandfather worked with his brother, then their father worked with their uncle - the store is named for the two sisters who run it. Mayer is nicknamed Sweet Pea, and Holowaty's middle name is Noelle.Find Sweet Pea & Noelle at 2100 Dewdney Ave. and
Sweet Potatoes Are Grown From Cuttings
Dear Helen: My husband and I eat sweet potatoes regularly and we're interested in growing them this year. Could you give us some hints on cultivating these plants? Is there a particular seed potato that you recommend? I've not noticed "eyes," that is sprouting points, on the tubers I buy. N.M. Dear N.M.: Sweet potatoes are grown not from seed tubers but from rooted cuttings, which are becoming more commonly available as increasing numbers of gardeners become keen to grow their own. Once you have the plants in the garden, cuttings taken at harvest time will keep you supplied with material for freshly rooted spring cuttings to plant outdoors. In the past, my source of cuttings has been Mapple Farm ( They were sold out of cuttings by March last year. Several readers told me they secured cuttings from Bella's Bees, Berries and Farm Fresh Produce in Brentwood Bay, or from Brian Minter (1-800-661-3919). The primary requirement of a sweet potato planting is heat. Choose the sunniest, warmest spot possible. Raised beds with a light-textured, slightly acidic soil are ideal. Heavy fertilizing is not necessary. A little bone meal for phosphorus and kelp meal for potassium are all you need. An abundance of nitrogen in the soil stimulates vine growth at the expense of tuber development and tends to cause spindly tubers as well. Pre-heating the soil with plastic for two to three weeks prior to planting is helpful. Clear plastic promotes soil warming to greater depths than black, while black plastic blocks weed growth. Take your pick. Arranging a cover of ventilated clear plastic or a floating row fabric cover over the planting will further concentrate heat around the planting. I plan to try a few plants also in large pots this year, to see how that works. The soil needs to be warmed to at least 13 C before planting through 23-centimetre holes cut in the plastic about 45 cm apart. Water regularly in hot, dry weather. Drawing down and anchoring the edges of plastic with soil at each hole will direct water to the plant roots. I dig the plants when the soil temperature dips to 10C, and cure the harvested tubers for 10 to 14 days in humid heat (27 C). These conditions for curing can be improvised in different ways, but I usually place the tubers in a slatted basket of some kind and set it near the wood stove with damp towels arranged around the rim and a piece of plastic placed loosely over top. I've also used a space heater as a source of warmth during the curing. Once cured, sweet potatoes are stored in a cool place, about 18 C. Cold storage will damage them. I keep mine in baskets just inside the north-facing front doorway, where it stays decidedly cool in fall, winter and early spring. Georgia Jet, an orange-fleshed sweet potato, is the best variety, but others are available for the adventurous. Dear Helen: Large poplar and Leyland cypress trees grow near my vegetable garden, which has become invaded by their roots. I was thinking of building contained beds and wonder what to put on the bottom to keep the roots out. L.K. Dear L.K.: Both these trees are fast-growing and invasive, and incompatible with nearby vegetable-growing areas. Personally, I'd either move the vegetable garden or remove the trees if you are able. You can build raised beds and line them with landscape fabric, but from what I've seen and from what friends have experienced, they are not always wholly successful in the long term as the soil in them lacks the totally free interaction with the subsoil. And you'd have to build fairly deep beds to successfully grow anything apart from the most shallow-rooted vegetables. The project may be worth the effort, however, if there is no other place for a food garden and, for whatever reason, you must stick with the trees.
Sweet Deal: UAE-Ukraine Honey Culture and Trade
The cuisine of the Middle East is well-known for its honey notes. Who can resist a bite of sweet knafeh with warm cheese filling and crispy top, or tender Emirati mohalla loaf and soft ligaymat generously coated with honey and Dibs? Having studied in the UAE and myself originally from Ukraine, I decided to take a look at the culture of honey in both places. Wild and Beautiful Traditional Emirati honey, collected from wild bees, is priced as highly as 1000 AED per kilo. It is consumed either in liquid form or directly from the honey comb. The famous 150-year old tamarind tree in Al Munai village , Ras Al Khaimah has been a destination for respite and diplomatic negotiations for royal visitors, among them the late ruler of Ras Al Khaimah Sheikh Saqr Al Qassimi, who enjoyed sitting in its shade. The bees visit their home in this tree, although not so frequently now due to changing environment, and the honey comb collected from the beehive is a prized rarity that is shared with the guests. Wild bees prefer privacy, and hence lay their honey in difficult-to-reach locations. However, the taste of the product is superb due to its natural origin and the nature of plants that grow in the hilly region. The Sidr tree honey collected in the Dibba mountains of Fujairah certainly competes in quality with the famous imported Yemeni honey. Supply Channels The Emirati culture thus retains the tradition of collecting honey from the wild, which makes the product rare and special. A substantial consumer demand for the good outweighs local supply, hence the UAE also imports honey from countries such as Yemen, Turkey and China. Yet there is another producer that steadily increases market share in the country and could supply honey to the Emirates. Europe's largest honey maker, Ukraine earned $95.9 million from honey exports last year. There being one beekeeper for every 107 Ukrainians , no wonder that the country has a Beekeeper's Day in August to celebrate the profession. I decided to visit local beehive owners in Ukraine to learn from them the secrets of honey production, and how the country's honey culture may be of palate interest to my friends in the UAE. Bees Happy with Less Contact Myron Matyichak has only about three bee hives, which he inherited from his father. This, however, gives enough honey for his family and sale in the neighborhood. He tells how in the past beehives were nested inside tree logs called borti , and harvesters had to eradicate the bee colony with smoke in order to access the product. The process became much friendlier towards the bees when the Ukrainian entrepreneur Petro Prokopovych invented a framed hive in 1814. It allowed withdrawing frames full with honey and placing new empty frames back without disturbing the little inhabitants. Soon the design of Prokopovych was adopted by beekeepers around the world. Myron opens the lid of the beehive to show me the system of frames and inner life of the bee family. The construction of vulyk (the Ukrainian word for beehive , or khaliyyat-annahl in Arabic) incorporates another feature to minimize contact with the bees. Myron shows me a food container sealed with a glass lid. The food for the bees, sugar syrup, is poured into the container from one end, and the bees access it by themselves from the other end. "Sweet" Inventions I visit another honey producer in the village of Mariyampil, Ukraine. Ihor Sykala did not have a beekeeper lineage but received the legacy from his father-in-law. The profession soon immersed him completely, and he expanded his knowledge based on tips from local beekeeper friends and articles from the Internet. He shows me his inventions, which quite surpass my expectations. At first there is a "bee bed," a wooden bed covered with soft blankets and nested on top of a beehive. It is designed for lying inside and meditating, as the humming of bees is believed to possess healing properties. Indeed, tucking my head inside the space, I can already feel the pacifying rhythm of their song! Another invention is a wax filter that uses sun energy. Ukrainians enjoy eating honey from the honey comb, and Ihor places the remaining wax under the mirror. The sun rays reflected by the mirror melt the substance, from which only the pure wax without debris filters down into the container. I take a look at the process of making liquid honey. Ihor places honey combs, in which bees sealed their honey, from a bee hive into the centrifuge, which can be rotated either manually or by electric power. By the power of rotation the honey exits the comb into the container underneath. The resulting honey is purely natural, consumed either at home or sold to local customers. Variations of Product Some Ukrainian beekeepers control the flavor of honey by taking their beehives into the field, where only a particular crop grows. As a result, the bees can collect sunflower or buckwheat honey, the latter with its darker syrup-like texture one of my favorite. However, equally popular is med riznotravya , which means honey from many herbs. The best one is collected in May-July, when grasses retain their full freshness. The resulting product has a rich and smooth flavor, and is believed to have the best medicinal effect on immunity and digestion among the various honey types. Market Share and Certification The export of Ukrainian honey is growing at a fast pace , and among enthusiastic consumers are Germany, United States, and Poland. In addition, Ukraine has dedicated centers for Halal certification , and the export of Halal goods from the country, particularly poultry and dairy products, is increasing . The country should therefore consider introducing its honey more seriously in the Middle East. A good platform to showcase the product would be one of the popular organic product exhibitions held regularly in Abu Dhabi or Dubai, such as Gulfood , by far one of the biggest organic food exhibitions in the UAE, to be held in February-March 2017 in Dubai World Trade Center. On the other hand, I would be equally interested to have Emirati honey offered in one of the cafes in my city Kharkiv, Ukraine. It would likely be a very expensive treat given its rarity. But Kharkiv is famous for its numerous cafes and tea houses that are growing in number from day to day. So, there might be a spot to have a spoonful of wild goodness from the hilly landscape of Fujairah, served with a cup of green tea or dark roast coffee.
